How Much Money Can You Make Make Blogging In A Month? ($20,000+)
How much money can you make blogging?
$1,000,000?
$10,000,000?
$100,000,000?
Okay, I don’t think there’s a single documented instance where somebody made $100,000,000 with a blog, but if there was, kindly tell me in the comments section.
Answering the question of how much money can you make blogging is quite difficult because there’s so many ways to do it, like:
- Selling online courses
- Advertising on your website
- Setting up a patreon account
- Writing for the Medium Partner Program
- Starting a coaching business
- Selling sponsored posts
- Selling your soul to the blogging devil
Okay, so maybe not that last one, but the point is there’s a lot you can try.
So, is there any money in blogging? Yes there is. There’s boatloads of it, if you know what you’re doing. Let’s answer that question in more detail.
Is There Any Money In Blogging?
On Medium.com alone, some writers make tens of thousands of dollars per month writing on the Medium Partner Program.
So, does that answer that for you?
How about if you’re a blogger who wants to sell an online course? Ankur Nagpal, the creator of Teachable.com tweeted this the other day:
So, yeah, we got bloggers making tens of thousands per month on Medium.com and we got course creators earning $20,000,000. Welcome to 2021.
Is there any money in blogging?
Yeah, there’s boatloads.
How Much Do Beginning Bloggers Make?
For the purposes of answering this question, let’s say “beginning blogger” means someone who just got started THIS YEAR.
$.15
Yeah, fifteen cents.
That’s how much beginning bloggers make. What? Do you want me to lie to you?
Okay, obviously that’s a twisted joke with a little bit of truth embedded inside. Amardeep Parmar, a friend of mine, took Medium.com by storm in 2020 and basically built a following of 20,000 people in 365 days. He made way more than $.15. He probably made over ten grand EASILY with the Medium Partner Program. I’d say he probably pushed $20K — $30K.
It depends on what you’re trying to do. Beginning bloggers on Medium can start averaging $1,000 per month in their first year. I totally believe that.
Beginning bloggers who try to start a WordPress site and sell ad space or online courses will have a hard time breaking that $1,000 per month threshold in their first year — mostly because you need traffic to make good money with courses or ads, and new WordPress blogs have a hard time getting enough traffic to generate money like that.
Which leads us to the next point..
How Much Traffic Do You Need To Make Money With A Blog?
10,000 views at the very least.
With 10,000 views on Medium, you can make about $150-$200 based on my estimates.
However, just last month Medium gave out $500 bonuses to 1,000 writers. Some of the writers in the top 1,000 were generating 2,000–3,000 views per month.
With a WordPress site, it’s a bit different.
10,000 views is pretty low to start making good money with ads or sponsored posts. I’ve seen some blogs who partner with MediaVine make $1,200 or so for generating 60,000 views. MediaVine is basically like Google ads, except you need to be accepted into their program. I heard you need 40,000 monthly views to be accepted.
So, 10,000 views won’t do you much good on a WordPress site, unless you setup an email list and start collecting email addresses. Based on my estimates, you can generate about 1–2 email subscribers per 100 views, so if you generate 10,000 views monthly, that’s about 100–200 email subscribers.
If you sell digital products well, you can probably convert 4–5% of people who sign up for your email list. So, if you sell an online course worth $199, let’s say, you can likely make about $1,000-$2,000 per month if you get good.
That’s a lot of ifs in this analysis to determine how much money can you make blogging, but this is a hypothetical question, isn’t it?
How Much Can A Blogger Make In A Month?
Hmm. I’d say anywhere from $0 to $50,000+.
How Much Money Can You Make Blogging On WordPress?
$20,000-$30,000 per month if you get good.
Look, if you sell online courses and build a blog out to 100,000 views per month, then yeah, you could probably make $20K-$30K per month if you really tried hard.
That’s taking online courses into account, ads into account, and sponsored posts into account, and any membership stuff you might have going on into account.
Why do I stop at 100,000 views monthly?
Because that’s about as high as you’ll get if you just go it alone. Trust me. If you want to generate more views than that, you need to hire a team of writers and try to make your blog a full-blown media company.
Hell, getting to 100,000 views monthly without a team of writers is already a stretch.
That’s the answer to the “How much money can you make blogging on WordPress” question.
How Much Does An Average Blogger Make?
Less than $100.
Seriously.
There’s a LOT of bloggers out there, people. New bloggers spring up like weeds every day. Most of these bloggers get into blogging for all the wrong reasons, so excuse me for answering the “How much does an average blogger make” question with a healthy dose of reality.
Most “bloggers” don’t love blogging. They love making money. Some get quite good at it, actually, but the vast majority fail pretty miserably pretty quickly.
So, what happens to these poor, unfortunate souls?
They quit pretty much immediately.
Thus driving the averages down for the 1–5% of bloggers who actually love writing and who actually do succeed and make great money online.
So, how much does an average blogger make? Well, the average blogger doesn’t make a lot of money because there’s a bunch of morons skewing the data.
How Many Readers Do You Need To Make Money Blogging?
10 readers. Let me explain.
This is an important question to ponder when considering how much money can you make blogging.
I don’t read “readers” in this question as views or visitors to a blog — I read “readers” as true fans.
Readers, to me, implies people that regularly read your work and keep coming back to you over and over again.
In my first ever webinar about how to make an extra $500 on Medium, I had about 30 people show up live. These people were awesome, were longtime readers of mine, and were real “readers” of my work.
I had about 10 people buy my course at the end of the webinar. It was awesome, and I got to know my readers way better over the next few weeks, months, and for some of them — even years.
For me, you only need 10 regular readers to make money blogging. Whether that will actually be a lot of money is totally up to what you’re selling, but you CAN make money with just that many avid readers.
That’s what you should think about when you ponder how many readers do you need to make money blogging.
How Much Does A Successful Blogger Make?
$0.
You’re successful when you enjoy blogging.
So, How Much Money Can You Make Blogging?
Boatloads, if you want to. I think the people who say that writing is a poor person’s vocation are idiots.
They just don’t understand how to turn writing into a business.
Many people on Medium.com have, and there’s tons of other writers on the internet outside of Medium that have managed to make writing a pretty profitable side hustle.
How much money can you make blogging? The sky is the limit.
