5 Movies Every Person Who Wants To Travel Should See
I love movies. They really speak to me. In a different life I’d be a film director or something, but alas, here I am. I’m not complaining, by the way.
A few movies about travelling have struck me over the years, and I thought listing them would make a great blog post! So, get ready to add a few movies to the queue!
1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Ben Stiller gives a great performance here during his portrayal of Walter Mitty–a guy who just can’t stop daydreaming. The only problem is, that’s all he does. The film has some hilarious bits, using CGI and other effects to bring his daydreams to life–but it starts to get serious when he has to travel to find a lost film negative that was supposed to be the last cover of Life magazine (where he works).
Getting out of his shell, he buys a passport and ventures to Greenland, where his perspective on life changes as he swims with sharks, has an encounter with an exploding volcanoe, and, well, I don’t wanna ruin it too much. Go see it!
2. Eat. Pray. Love.
I saw this movie a few years ago and was surprised with how much I loved it. I never thought it would strike me as much as it did. Julia Roberts plays Liz Gilbert, who basically drops everything to go to Italy to eat, India to pray, and Indonesia, where she finds love. It has a lot of great themes about life, following dreams, and what it means to love somebody.
3. Wild
Fantastic film. Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl Strayed (I know, great name), a recently divorced middle-aged lady who decides she’s going to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail stretches for 1,100 miles, and will take her at least three months.
It’s largely a movie about struggling with the past, inner demons, and redemption. It’s a fantastic movie for anyone looking to quit everything and go on an adventure to find themselves.
4. Slumdog Millionare
While not a traditional travel movie, the main character does hop on a train as a stowaway at one point and gets to travel India. The story follows Jamal Malik, a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionare. The film switches back and forth between his younger self and the present day–showing how he knows the answers to all the questions.
It’s definitely a feel-good movie that’ll change your perspective on things.
5. The Beach
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the other ones, probably because the tone is less lighthearted and more serious. Dicaprio’s in it, playing a young traveller who finds a mysterious map in Thailand. Turns out the map leads him to an island that has a ton of pot growing on it. It’s a fun watch for sure, and it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
There’s five films that’ll get you in the mood to drop everything and travel. Maybe they’ll inspire you to. I sure hope so!
