What does “We are processing this story, hang tight!” mean on Medium?
Chances are you’ve seen this message from Medium curators on the stats page while waiting to see if your medium post was curated.
What “We are processing this story, hang tight!” Actually Means
Okay, so there’s a bunch of Medium curators around the world who actively look through submissions from every single Medium writer. That’s right. Every time a Medium post is published, a curator looks it over.
This message simply means that the post is in the queue to get looked over by Medium curators. If they like it and select it for curation, then your post will get promoted more on the platform.
In short, you’ll get more views and money!
I go over what that means in this post on how to get curated on Medium.

What “Not Distributed In Topics” Means
Not distributed in topics means your post was NOT selected by Medium curators for curation. This sucks. I know it does.
The thing is, though, they miss a lot of great posts. I’m convinced they probably throw posts in the trash immediately based on the headline or cover photo. Make sure you’re doing your due diligence here and get your headline + cover image snappy.
What “Distributed In….” Means
Congratulations! Your post was distributed in topics like “Marketing” or “Self” or even “Equality”
That means the views will soon come rolling in from out of nowhere. The Medium gods are now showering you with attention and glory. Soak it in, be proud, then write your next post!
What “Our curators were not able to review this story for distribution in topics due to high volume” Means
This is the message that probably makes me the most mad.
“We are processing this story, hang tight!” is fine because at least they’re getting to every post. This message, however, means they aren’t even trying to look at every post because there’s too many submissions coming in.
This means there’s no longer a level playing field for who gets more views on the platform since human beings can no longer look over every post.
This doesn’t happen *too* often on Medium, but when it does it can get infuriating because without curation, your posts are basically dead in the water.
You can’t do too much of anything in this situation, unfortunately, except wait for it to be over.
I hope this helps answer the question of what “We are processing this story, hang tight!” means, along with other messages the Medium curators send us on a day-to-day basis.
